A Fly Above All van went up to Alternator yesterday, optimistic that the excellent lapse rate would result in blocking of the significant north wind, and indeed, the day turned out to be very very nice for flying. I had one of my most fun days there, doing pretty darn well without a vario (kinda peaceful without the beep beep buzz buzz!), and a bunch of other folks were very pleased to be able to get out and get a nice flight in very pleasant conditions as well, three tandems included. Thanks to Chris G for his weather-reading expertise and optimism!
Then, after our excellent morning flight at Alternator, Chris G, Dave B, and I headed east to Oat Mountain, on the edge of Fillmore. As all have reported in other posts, Mark P is an excellent host, and gave us very thorough directions to the LZ, a ride up to launch and site introduction, and was able to fly with us as well. Launching about 4:00, we had a great time flying in fun and at times a little bit athletic air. We all top landed after a while, hung out and enjoyed the spectacular view, and then flew again about 6:00p for a really pleasant, smooth glass-off down to wonderful-smelling orange groves. Highly recommended!
