hit guad dunes w/ Aaron and Jeffy today. we definitely had a (sand)Blast! reached @ 100 over a couple times and had multiple fun straight up jumps off little ridge lift dune knobs and lots of slidin around- on and off the sand.
Jeffy guided us over to paradise cove and close to shore we saw a very playful young grey whale breaching 90% out of the water several times with its big mamma cruising alongside. when i was a kid on trips my dad always made my brother and i point off toward something far away for photos; its a great joke to this day.
paradise is stunning, but was just over the edge to speedfly; rough and gusting to @ 30mph. we crawled up a soft sand trail straight up the ridge about a mile in the distance from this shot...
really a workout getting torqued up the dunes, glider control was frustratingly comical at times! for the first couple hours, the scenery at this place is simply magical. but after miles and miles of soft sand hiking against the wind on the way back it started to seem a little more like slogging thru a blizzard. overall just a great way to daytrip...
