Visiting tues (27th)

Postby J ball » Mon Mar 26, 2012 11:51 am

Hey gang. Passing thru your area tues and was hoping to get a flight in. I'm a hang 4 from northern Cali. Fly mainly at McClure, hat creek, slide, a little at the fort. Talked to Jonathan D already and sounds like he and Bob T will be at Parma park at 1030. Plannin on hooking up with them. Just want to check and see if I need to talk to anybody or meet up w anyone 1st.. Etc..
Thanks, Jason (j ball on the org as well)

Speculation and Observation

Postby sd » Mon Mar 26, 2012 7:51 pm

Posted Monday Night:
9:45 at Parma may be better than 10:30 which seems a tad late for the day. More sun is forecast in the morning with high clouds building from the NW in advance of an approaching cold front. The lapse rate looks ok and the wind should be light from the west but clocking around from the SW a bit. We generally prefer a little flow from the NW over the back to keep things cleared out, but it looks like the wind velocity is light enough such that penetration out the canyons may not be too bad.

Tuesday morning update / 7 am
Looks like we have all the ingredients for a good day except the sun. Considerable mid level clouds are moving towards us in advance of a weak frontal system. There may be some sun holes, but likely not the best day to skip work.

Noon update: Looks like a pretty good day after all. Thick high clouds came and went. Convective cloudbase along the range is lifting, currently in the upper 3s. Much less development than yesterday with a narrow street along the high points covering about 60% of the course, but full sun out front.

Thanks for the updates. We launched around 1. Had a great hour and a half fligh, enjoying the scenery and the cumies (topped out about 4100). Then headed out to the beach from about 3800ft so i had plenty of air to float around over the golf course, planning my approach before I crossed over and had a nice easy landing. Can't wait to come back!
