Weather site

Postby Dave Baldwin » Mon May 19, 2008 4:54 pm

I was recently shown this site as someting of interest from one of the soaring pilots. If you have not seen it you might like playing with the overlays to see the smoothed patterns of data.

Be advised that the data for our area is interpolated from data recorded relatively far aways and that the resolution of the "smoothed" data is meant to be in 1 kilometer squares.

Well, for whatever it is worth, that site was dead-on with predicting the crappy weather we've been having in Annecy. Cloud base <5-6k and gnarly NE winds are keeping paragliders and hang gliders on the ground. It is nice to have all of that info in one place. It has been tough to find a better web site for an American in the alps.

Looks like Dr.Jacks with a better interface. Historically Dr. Jacks has been dead on for areas without a coastal influence. Not so great for SB but right on the money for places like Ojai and Pine. It'd be interesting to see how the two compare.
