Bob Drury’s first flight in America

Postby SA » Thu Apr 17, 2008 6:12 am

We were hoping to get Bob and Verity a flight here in Santa Barbara the day after his slide show presentation. It looked like it was blocking so we made a move for the Alternator. The cycles were light when we arrived around 12:30. I punched off with Nick Greece, and we found some small cores we worked up to 4200. Bob launched next taking his first flight on American soil form the Alternator. We had friends in from Jackson Hole and Telluride who followed, and we all worked it out over west bowl. We could feel the north, and it happened to be present at lower altitudes than usual. In fact it got low enough to start breathing over the back and put a stop to the thermal block. There were a handful that didn’t get off launch, and ended up driving down. Bob took off on glide for painted cave. I thought he was going to head for Kabir and Corey’s ranch for a top landing since thats where they were staying. He seemed to feel the north, and turned back and landed with the rest of us at the T. Thanks to Bob and Verity for the visit, and the excellent presentation.

Thanks for a really fun evening Bob, Rob, Bob and Sara!

The slide show was phenomenal, albeit Bob is a crazy dude! To get those pictures flying over that terrain with insane lift, in hypoxic conditions and huge gloves - hard to imagine. Great schpeal and very entertaining.

Thanks for putting it together Rob. It was great to see such a solid paragliding mountain flying crowd in attendance - that may be the largest gathering of Paraglider pilots I've seen in my 6 years of Santa Barbara living.

Bob and Sara are the best hosts we have. Thank you very much for supporting our community. It was truly a great evening at your beautiful home.

Let's do it again next week!
