How much east?

Postby Southside » Thu Oct 04, 2007 7:20 pm

So I'm looking at the forecast for Saturday and I see that the winds are supposed to be NE with over 7k tops in Ojai and 6k tops from Carp all the way to Lompoc. But I also see that the winds are predicted to be a tad more north than east. So my question is how much more east than north do we need for Nordoff to work?

Thanks,

John

Dean, I guess I am talking to myself. 54 views and not one response; not even an educated guess.

Anyway, looks too north to risk the drive up. Having said that, after my original post the forecast changed to due north, but now it has it swinging back toward the east a bit. Maybe by tomorrow it will swing east even further so that you guys can get off the hill for a flight to Lompoc.

Me, I'm going to go pick up my new (used) Litespeed S 4 from Moyes.

Looks like a Brotherhood day to me. Bring that new glider up here so we can take a look at it, go over the back. 8)

How funny...I was watching this thread because I was planning on coming up to Ojai to fly with Kraig from Moyes. I was bummed when Kraig said its a no go. Then, after checking your thread tonight I realized we were actually going to bring up your glider and I was going to go flying with you!

I've wanted to fly Ojai for a long time...it's one of the few CA sites I haven't flown. Guess it was not meant to be this time, but hope to make it up one of these days and fly from Ojai to SB.

Enjoy your Litespeed S, I love mine.

Erick,

You'll probably get this too late, but I'll be heading up to Santa Barbara today. Thought I'd just run some laps, but looking at the forecast, I'm not so sure that we won't be able to make it into Ojai today; if we're lucky maybe even ride a convergence out to I 5 from Santa Paula.

Anyway, I'm showing some Crestline pilots the area early in the morning. We're meeting up with some locals at the beach sometime before 10:00.

Hard to get a read this morning. Winds light at the peak then picking up. Lots of wind inland and at Catalina. Lapse rate looks really good at Vandenburg especially between 3 and 5 grand. My guess is we'll get high and be getting around locally with some wind in it but thats about it. I think I'll cruise up a little later after a morning breakfast etc. With some cooling heading in on Monday the afternoon today might be really good with the chance of lightening winds later.
