I visited Dan yesterday and had a really good time with him.  He was bright, awake, and engaging.  He is his old playful self.  Kim was asking him questions to get the memory part of his brain going.  She asked him if he knew what date her birthday was on.  He couldn’t do it (hey I’m 55 years old too and have 4 kids and have the same problem for which I dearly pay when I don’t remember) so she told him.  The really fun part was that Dan teased her and played to get around having to answer her.  He was being quite witty.

Later on we were goofing around, having lots of laughs and all and Kim asked him again what her birthday was.  He got April ok but was doing his playful evasion on having to tell her the date.  He and I joked about the perils of forgetting a daughter’s birthday and the fact that even if you do, daughters being who they are will remind you anyway.  But Kim was holding him to it.  She was sitting on the foot of his bed with her back to me so he could see me but she could not.  Dan had just about exhausted his bag of playful evasion when I held up two fingers and he answered “April the second”.  Very smooth too, not letting on that he and I were in league.  Kim said “good dad,” he didn’t miss a beat.  He had a bright glint in his eyes as all this was going on.

It was so much fun for me to again see my buddy be who he is.  Later Alan came by, he and Kim gave him some real good memory tasks which he performed very well.  Later as I understand, his dogs showed up for a visit.  I’m really glad to see him.
