Jim,
Based on your photos, it appears you attempted a route that we generally discourage in our standard briefing. Most everyone who tries to go upwind / down ridge, even in a hang glider, ends up hiking. The headwind from the NW is too much, it’s too shallow for ridge lift, the back ridge drops off too gradually, and the canyon has you boxed in. Gota give you credit for trying and learning.
You want to get to the spine off to the right of launch. If you flush, follow that spine out, not the back ridge. Get 500+ over on the spine and move uphill to the next spine. Watch your relief against the wind so you don’t get stuck in the trees. You can go OTB with a few hundred over up at the campground. A skip back to 85 or 9 is good for the glide to Ojai.
Better luck next time.
