ACK! I would have ridden it in like Benson did :-) I have seen gliders thermal for 8 minutes (timed) under a reserve...and unless the glider is locked into a strong spiral, descent rates on stalled paragliders (especially if you can find brush to land in) just isn't that bad. If you only have rock to land on...well tough one, every deployment i have seen with that situation the pilot ends up in the hospital from the dragging down slopes and accross boulders trying to get away from their gear in wind, but they lived...

I have gone parachutal a bunch on my old spear, generally i try to stay and calm and balanced and still as a mouse...afraid any input would cause assymetric flight and insipient spin, it always started flying again after a couple seconds and required kind of a rolly hip thing to make sure the glider starts flying all together (if that makes any sense). Now i fly always with the speed bar under my feet so i can react fast enough (but this seems to be less of an issue since i can't get in my friggin glider weight range!). Fumbling for the speed bar when the glider is in such a delicate state could be a bad idea.
