Pine Mountain on Sunday

I was fortunate enough to watch all the other pilots go off first. The show from launch was extraordinary. The absolute best was Ron's ability to sniff and scratch low and still reach outstanding heights. I also saw Bill Bailey's daredevil feat. It looked like an airplane diving sideways into the ground, then miraculously recovering. Thank goodness! He then radios to me and says, "It's punchy out here Sharon"! I'd hate to see "rough" in Bill's vocabulary! I launched after Tom Beidler but soon lost sight of everyone. I went to the East of launch and got up right there after twirling a few times. I just thermalled and floated and enjoyed the view. I was soon looking over the back with no one else in sight. So I tried to contact Truax to let me know where everyone was. I thought everyone was at some landing zone drinking beers at the local spot. Tom said to get up to 10,000 or higher so I got up to 11,770 which is really great for me. I felt like I could fly all over the world but went west toward a fork in the road thinking I could at least get to civilization somehow. It was a clear day and I stayed up for ages. Landed on a river bed and Tom B. picked me up. Gorgeous day for flying!
