I launched early in a weak cycle and worked the second and third knobs for a very long time. After an hour I was back at launch level and from there it was relatively easy to get higher, but the inversion lid was about 55.

The uper level winds were W. I got up to 5300 and flew down the ridge to the third knob, gaining alt all the way and left for W repeater with almost 55. I came in half way up the ridge with 42, which is usually sufficient and worked up to about 46 twice but got kicked out into the canyon and lost several hundred feet each time. I tried working lower but the lift was too ratty if I didn't come over the ridge with 300 feet or more. It felt like there was rotor coming from an E wind coming up the SP river bed. Thinking this indicated that the Upper Ojai Convergence wasn't far away I tried to find my way into it, but when I approached the ridge with more alt there was nothing and I was now too low. Landed E of Boccalies.
