I learned alot. In Utah ridge soaring is more scary than mountain flying. Driving with Tom Beidler can be more scary still, but not as scary as eating in the Salt Lake suburbs.

The Mtn sites were not what I expected. I was imagineing remote places like Pine Mtn, but the first site we flew was more like the Nut House hike up with freeways and suburbs added. The LZ was a little tight (I wasn't expecting to use it so soon after launch) but my triple wrap/stall the glider before you hit a tree landing method served me well.

The next day we flew Inspiration, near Provo, where the LZ was described as a little tight and surrounded by power lines. As we approach the LZ to meet other pilots we passed through an area that is know, at least to SB pilots, to have more power lines per square mile than any other place on the planet. The prefered LZ is a school yard bigger than any LZ we have in the So CA except the Lockwood Valley. The biggest problem for our group was avoiding the sprinkler system on final.

The second day we flew Inspiration we were there getting ready to launch we heard loud breathing on our radios followed by very loud "I'M COMING...I'M COMING IN...I'M COMING IN". Later we found out the pilot was landing in a housing tract and yelling at a gardner with ear muffs and a weed wacker. The wacker of weeds never noticed the creative pilot.

As our shuttle flew into SB Airport I noticed a blue and white glider laid out on launch at Wilcox. Maybe tomorrow!
