With the west winds coming straight in at about 12-15mph, the potential to stay up for hours was very likely. We launched around noon in perfectly smooth air and practiced our ridge soaring rules and techniques. We made sure we used our whistles while passing through the RC zone and when launching and landing. That, in and of itself, was a new skill to learn ;-)

We soared an easy 500 feet over launch, up and down the beautiful San Diego coastline with occasional dolphin sightings. Military helicopters and planes shared the air space with us adding a little diversity to the otherwise very peaceful sound of the ocean, wind and beeping vario.

I was told by one of our Ventura pilots (Brendan) that he was checking his emails and making phone calls while in flight. I also witnessed him doing several wingovers and other playful maneuvers to help entertain him on his 2.5-hour flight.

All in all, it was fun and easy day.

Kristi
