The only escape from the bugs, today, was in the air. A more impressive demonstration of scratching you will never see as Benson, Bill, John (Art's nonpilot friend) and I watched Art and the doctor below launch clinging by their fingertips for 20 minutes or so, flirting with a flush at the nuthouse but never quite giving in to gravity's pull. Both finally caught the up elevator to the ridge line. It all came down to the luck of the draw at launch. I caught a strong cycle where others, including Ron, Art and Benson, did not. Art, Bill and I eventually transitioned over to Pyramid Peak. I scratched around the SW face for sometime before finally reaching the crest; from there is was an easy glide to Nordhoff ridge. I headed toward the HS with 4200+; passed overhead with 1000 extra and landed in a field near HWY 150 in Oakview,2 miles or so southwest of the football field.
