Dan Keyser, the Spin Doctor, Philip and I met Esse at Skyport (Rob was flying tandems). The doctor launched first in a good cycle and headed to the R&R. I also launched well but with 300 or so over, saw the doctor scratching in southwest wind so decided to try the factory. Made it to 3500 or so before topping out; from there to the antennae farm where nothing was working. Fortunately, I had enough altitude and arrived at Parkers above the peak. The thermals were fairly strong but very tight and fragmented. I limped around for quite a while hoping my patience would win out and get me up to 3500 or so for a run to the beach. Finally, with about 3200, I headed out, hoping to make the Valley Club. Fat air and a few glide extenders over the east end of the Riveria and from the Valley Club knoll, itself, put me over 101 at 760. From there I cruised over the cemetery and headed downwind to Butterfly Beach for a picture perfect touchdown into a strong SW wind. Although I couldn't penetrate into the gradient, the air was so fat my descent was gentle and smooth. What a day for the beach! Thanks for the ride back to Parma, Dan, and thanks to Ron and Phillip for retreaving my car at launch so I could return to the office. I ask you, What other sport provides this kind of diversion at lunchtime?
