Jan 21 2000, Saturday, at Skyport

Rob Spoorer (SA) , one of his students and I went up to the Skyport around 12:00 to get a quick flight in. We meet Gilbert at launch and discussed the previous events at the round house. It seems like we have a voyeur problem at the Round House. We told him that the restriction of 1000` horizontal and 500` vertical will be kept into consideration when flying in the near future. We were almost talked into going higher, but Hisham had just launched and climbed out nice in the house thermal. Enough talking, time to get in the air.

The conditions were South East 3-11, but coming up very nice at launch. I was going to fly the Ambar, but since it was light I decided to stick with my Saber. After launching I climbed nicely in the House to about 200 over before heading east to the TF. The drift was from the South East, but the thermals we out front at the house. I probably should have tried to drift back with them and head west to the RR, but I was closer to the TF. I hit some sink out front, and came in just over the lower bumps on the FT. After working zero sink for 5-10 minutes a nice thermal lifted off and took me to around 4000 feet. SA and Jeff Gritch (Flying Fish) were climbing out at the RR having chosen to head west. SA on his Ambar, making it look easy!

Thermal production on the TF shut down, and I was sent out front to the Antenna Farm. Luckily, it was going off and once again I was climbing. Flying Fish was on glide to Lacumbre Peak and SA was making the RR look good, so I took a dive for the holy hills coming in quite low. After a struggle, I was sent packing again. At one point I thought I was going to have to put it down at Saint M, but maybe the Monastery …... Boom! A nice, fat 600 up to 3000`. Nice!

All in all, it was just a very enjoyable day!
