I continually preach angle of attack awareness and control, which is interdependent on a number of things like gyrations and oscillations. Steering is usually secondary to angle of attack when trying to maintain control in rough air. Steering can be important especially if you’re pointed at the rocks. We also have to manage angle of attack asymmetrically

Staying in control is the key. Your decent rate is reasonable with half the wing tucked under. You can crash land ok with half a wing if you’re at trim, but you don’t want to hit the rocks in a spiral dive. SD
