Nuthouse westbound over Casitas Pass and back eastbound past Piru
______________________
Sunday morning update:
8:45ish to 9ish at the Ash Street Footbridge in Ventura for the Nuthouse. If you miss the Ventura carpool, you can still pass me on the hike up.
The transition to a Santa Anna event is a little slower than the previous forecast, but the north wind is forecast to die down this afternoon. At dawn, it was blowing pretty stiff from the NE at La Cumbre Peak but Montecito has already started to back down and is only gusting into the mid 20s. Expect Max altitudes in SB close to 6K, and 8K in Ojai. A little cooler on the surface than last night's forecast, but still hot.

1 am look at a Potentially Stellar Sunday
Looks like another stellar day with impressive potential. The beginning of a building Santa Anna event. The wind is clocking around from the North to coming out of the North East. The west pushes through toward the west end of the course later in the day, and the east fades toward the east end of the course as the day ages.
Good lapse rate in SB, and a strong lapse rate in Ojai and Fillmore. Too much wind to launch from Fillmore, so without access to the San Cayetano Road, I'll start mid course from the Nuthouse in Ojai. Expect it to be hot and buggy on the hike, but I'm an old fat guy with a bad ankle, so if I can survive the trek... I'll go early because I hike slow and need to avoid the heat. Call if you want to carpool
It should start out from the NE in the morning, but the west pushes through from the west later in the day, so expecting an out an return from Ojai to SB and back to... Likely won't be able to go past Fillmore with east wind at altitude over the river, but it subsides later in the day, so hoping for a sea breeze coming up the river. Hoping to get high at Santa Paula Ridge and bridge out across the river toward...
If you can't get to the Nuthouse, SB should work ok and you can get on course eastbound in the afternoon after a short westbound leg in the morning.
Early altitudes in Ojai look like plenty to get across Casitas pass downwind, and max altitude at the Bluffs in the afternoon looks close to 9K. Not as high in SB, but there may be some convergence assist on the leading edge of the west as it pushes through in the afternoon.
