_______________
7:30 am update: South Side is out the door and is planning to grab Edward on his way through Ventura, but confirmation on Edward is pending. Estimating Bailard about 9ish and Parma about 9:30. The Lapse Rate is looking good. A drying trend, but there is some low level moisture and associated stratus with a weak morning marine inversion. Higher stratus off to the east and some lower stuff toward the Santa Ynez mountains about 3K. The wind has backed off from yesterday's post frontal gusto, but the forecast is for a health breeze from the west this afternoon. Light morning katabatic flow down the Santa Clara River should turn on-shore after some heating. Rising barometer, but the high is still offshore, so don't expect to see much drainage off the desert until Monday.
-----------------------
8:30 PM Saturday Night: Planning to try the Skyport on Sunday. Trending more stable, but still a good lapse rate, at least through midday. A little less wind at 6K compared to Saturday, and a drying trend. Don't expect it will be working very good at the Castaic Junction late in the day, but I suspect it should be good enough to get to Piru. Not sure about logistics, South Side has Edward on standby, but John is sitting on the fence. He reports Edward is in Ventura, so if anyone is passing through, you might give him a call. I'll try to post again in the morning before heading out the door.

Oat has a good SE morning launch. San Cayetano has good SE exposure. I've always wondered how far a good pilot could get going to Santa Barbara and back. Sunday may not be the best day, but I could help getting to launch.

~under 4k the whole way to Noon~ pretty tricky tom ... brendan, oj and i left a car at padaro thinking we'd at least make it there, and we met sd, bob h, john & eddie at parma. at launch, to me, it looked like it'd od and stay poor but conditions did improve. during the first flights, good pilots were getting unlucky and the lucky ones were only gifted mediocrity. brendan and i worked tf for awhile under 4k. i went back over to rr for some fun flying, enjoying the views @ the swallowing cloud action. eventually followed brendan out to east beach. as we folded, the mtns were clearing a bit, but it still looked unfriendly downrange ~

First launch, I was what Andy called the unlucky pilot. Unfortunately, unlucky was followed by bad decision when I headed toward TF. In the south east wind I should have headed over to the holly hills. Instead I limped over the power lines then decided to follow the ridge into the canyon and over to holly hills. Got a few bumps but eventually got flushed to Saint Mary's.
After hitchhiking and hiking up Gibraltar road, I made it back to launch. The situation had changed dramatically. Everybody was going up. Launched and immediately sailed up to 3400. Went to RR and hit 4000. It became quite easy at that point to bump back and forth between TF and RR. I found getting to La Cumbre was hard because of the sink behind RR. So, I turned around and headed out front to play around. Made a sweet glide to the beach. Beautiful day. A few first day pilots had sweet flights out of Sky Port, getting a couple thousand over the LZ. It was fun to watch.
