Chelan PWC starts day 3 today. USA in top spots!

Postby Marty DeVietti » Tue Jul 20, 2010 8:50 am

It is a rare bird indeed for the USA to host a Paragliding World Cup event and Chelan, Washington is delivering epic XC conditions right on cue. The USA pilots are on top of the leader board after two tasks. It is early in the race, and of course things can change if they get 5 or 6 tasks, but how cool for Nick Greece to take day one and Josh Cohn for day two. Dean Stratton is right in there at third place overall followed by Jack Brown in 4th. Meredeth Malocasay and Melanie Phister are holding down 3rd and 4th in the Women's category and Tim O'neil is unofficially on top of the serial class.

Timo's blog is here:

Josh Cohn and Nick Greece take 1 and 2 on the podium at the PWC in Chelan.

Bravo boys, bravo!

Joanna, a great pilot from Venezuela took top woman's spot, and second was Melanie Phister who is relatively new to competing, but charging with the big dogs now, and third to Meredith Malocasay who has been gunning for a while now. Nice job ladies.

Jack Brown flew impressively and still managed to be 5th after one bad day, and winning two tasks back to back. Fantastic work, Jack!

Dean was 8th and Bradley 11th. Nice!

A fine job by Doug Stroop, and Denise Reed for the success of the event. As I understand it, there was some problem with the PWC getting pilots signed up in time for their visas to arrive, and that cost Doug some 25 spots of UNFILLED pilots competing, so if you do the math... 25x $350= $8,750 of lost revenue. To show support for our brilliant pilots and for Doug to take the risk of putting on the event, I think it's appropriate on this forum to suggest anyone who is interested to purchase a fund rasing t-shirt here:
http://www.chelanxcopen.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16&Itemid=20

If you want to give more than the cost of a shirt ($20) and the $5 shipping ($25 total) I am sure they would appreciate any 'over paying' so that there are more shirts to spread around....I can't imagine them making much on the shirts at that price.

Way to go USA! What an impressive showing for our world wide fellow pilots!
