visiting in July

I'm going to be visiting family in Camarillo in July. I'm a new H4 and will be traveling with my H2 rated son. Are there any sites close by that are suitable for a solid H2 and is there anyone here willing to act as a guide?

Thanks in advance,

Russ,

A great site to fly in July for an H2 is Marshall in late afternoon early evening. http://www.crestlinesoaring.org/ Very nice glass offs in the early evening and good strong thermals in the middle of the day. Marshall is in the Riverside area and is about a 2.45 hour drive from Camarillio. Marshall excepts Hang 2 pilots. A great LZ, pretty easy to stay up there and it's very consistent. Launch just before sunset for a smooth buoyant flight. My choice for consistent flights for a new pilot.

Another site for a nice afternoon flight is Kagel which should be very close to you. Again, should be good in the late afternoon as well. http://shga.com/history.asp Kagel might be harder on a Hang 2. You have to call Joe Greblo to see what he says or try one of the other numbers off their website.

Santa Barbara is best in Winter but is flyable at low altitudes in Summer and on the occational good day. The colder the better for flying in Santa Barbara and it aint that cold in July but we have some fun low days flying above the LZ for quite some time in the marine layer.
