Elings Park Phase III development

Postby Bobbie » Mon May 12, 2008 3:55 pm

The City of Santa Barbara will be preparing an environmental impact report on the Elings Park Phase III project, which includes proposed changes to the south side of Elings Park that we have been aware of for some time. Elings Park South was annexed to the City of Santa Barbara in April 2008. The link below takes you to the City’s request for input to the environmental impact report preparation. The project description, maps, and minutes from prior committee meetings are also included in the linked document.

Thank you so much Bobbie for posting this link. I didn't know the park was now a property of the City. Looks like it is going to developed a lot and I am afraid our LZ over there is going to be potentially more hazardous as more people will come at the park in general. Despite the fact that the landing area does not see to be touched (so far), we can expect more traffic in general. It might be good to have spectators (potential new pilots) but we may have to make sure the LZ is always clear.

Latest Development!!!!!

After thorough review it was determined that the actuel best use of of Eilings South was for continued use as a training hill for Paragliding and Hang gliding. Although BMX was considered it was discovered that it would disrupt thermal activity and so was put back on the north side. Due also to a lack of funding it was determined that "the hill" should be left alone until after all work was finished on the expansion of Highway 101. The time frame on the 101 expansion is as of now an indeterminate time frame. We congratulate the pilots of the area who have shown superior soaring and wish them to continue their undeniable flawless soaring skills. Also, since so many people watch the local pilots flying it was determined that a special fund should be given to support all of the local pilots so that they won't be distracted by laborious work and may continue to persue their flying excellence on a daily basis.
