Flight Restriction, Skyport Launch

The South Coast Paragliding Association has concluded that the Skyport launch on Gibraltar Road in Santa Barbara has been made considerably more dangerous by the effects of the recent Jesusita Fire. We are in the process of obtaining the necessary permission, funding and labor to return the site to its pre-existing condition. Therefore, we request that Skyport launch not be used by any pilots during the coming summer of 2009.

We will keep all pilots informed of our work in progress via this website.

We removed most of the rebar and took out some of the dangerous brush below launch last weekend. Tomorrow we plan to put in some time on erosion control. If you'd like to help, we're meeting on Rockwood at Parma Park at 9 AM Saturday the 13th.

The Suburban does alternate duty as a material transport to move the jute used to stabilize the hillside. 10 rolls outside, six more inside. Good fun!

We finished putting in some "jute straw waddles" for erosion control at Skyport. Thanks to OJ for sacrificing Topa Chase for straw hauling. The plan is to do the major retaining wall work on Saturday, August 1st. Mark it on your calendars; we'll need 15-20 people to do the work.
