Due to the Chalk Fire, burning in the Los Padres Nat'l Forest in the Monterey District, Nacimiento-Ferguson Road is closed. As of Tuesday, the Forest Service predicts that the road will be closed at least through the weekend :(

As of now, Thurs. A.M., Nacimiento-Ferguson Road and South Coast Ridge Road are still closed. It also states that they're using 10 helicopters on this fire. I'm curious if the road to The Knob is still open, and if so, would the firefighters be unhappy about our flying activities anyway?

From my rudimentary web surfing skills I found a NOTAM for the area that appears to cover Wild Cattle launch, Plasket Creek Campground, Sand Dollar beach, etc.
Don't take my word for it - I'm just passing on info.

If the South Coast Ridge Rd. is closed from Naciamento Fergusson to Willow Cr.Rd. then ALL of our mountain launches are off limits. I haven't looked at the notams for a TAF, but it would stand to reason that they have extented one to include Sand Dollar. :(

What do we do now??

I meant to write TFR. What is a TAF??(terminal area forcast), guess i don't get my pilot license this week. Don't get to fly Big Sur either. Maybe Ben can get that waiver. Like the faa is going to tell the chopper pilots to watch out for us.
