Nephele (close friend of Debbie) looking room to share!

Postby Dave Baldwin » Mon Apr 23, 2007 10:12 am

I just happend to be surfing for more weather info and came across the antenna farm web site. I called the owner/operator of the antenna farm (if I can't fly in my office at least I can do something related). They do not have a system, but would like one AND they would be interested in chipping in for a system. If "we" are interested in helping to make it happen they would like a system.

They currently have web cam security. It may be possible to setup a web cam weather system of some kind if that is a financially resonable option. Unfortunately the installed web cam is pointed down as they use it for driveway, gate, fencing security but the internet link is in place.

Please get in touch with me about what, who, how much, and if there is interest. Who installed Debbie?

A weather station is pretty straight forward: buy a Peet Bros, Davis, Oregon Scientific, Radio Shack, etc. system and install it. A weather talker is a specific brand, but you can get voice modules for most weather stations. The real challange becomes getting the information from the station to the people who want it.

What infrastructure exists there? Do they have a land line or internet connection? Are they interested only in single point of time information, or would it be better to have a record with a graphical display? A system like LaCumbra peaks: http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?call=K6TZ-11 can be provided via IP or RF. The same system can have a talker installed to connect to a LL for another $400; a cell phone would require, well, cell phone hassles.

Check out "part 1: the plan" for general info on weather stations and options. http://rhonda2-0.blogspot.com/index.html

Hi Robb,
Thank you for the post. I will read your link information tomorrow. I glanced at it and it looks like it will be very helpful to me.

I am a P2, still waiting for his first mountain and ridge flight, who will be continuing to try not to get hurt as you noted in your "part 1". I am sure that my hopes are similar to yours at the time that more real time data will ease the stress of my decision making and provide more safety for all of us.

The site has a phone line and I think a seperate internet connection of some kind. If you have a recommendation of a fancy system and a least expensive system it would be helpful as I know nothing about this stuff and will have to start from ground zero. I am sure that the owner woudl like to have a recording of the weather conditions. I would like to offer the basic parameters (fancy and expensive and cheap and limited) to the antenna farm owner with estimated costs and see what he would be willing to contribute and maintain. Then we will know whether to continue or let the opportunity pass.

Thank you for the information you have provided and any more involvement you might be willing to contribute.

Hi Robb,
I posted a note to your private email via this list. Could you please let me know that you received it? I am not sure that the Discussion Board forwarding is working. I has failed me before.
