flying technique(s)

Postby diablo » Thu Apr 13, 2006 8:03 am

this quote appears in Aprils 2006 Soaring Magazine 1-26 Championships Article by Kevin Ford. " I used a technique that Irn Jousma taught me long ago for flying on cloudless days: when in sink, fly across the wind, and when reaching lift or reduced sink, turn into the wind. The theory is that the lift and sink are organized roughly in streets aligned with the wind, the same as on cloud days." Maybe a tip for the transistion from Highway 5 past Nenanche in the Antelope Valley.

Nice tip Tony and thanks for hosting the SCPA meeting. That was a great time and I really enjoyed the route info in the garage / Map Room. You got me all jazzed up for flying in the desert, when it stops raining.
