Monday Skyport

Postby Dean S » Mon Feb 20, 2006 8:42 pm

Sunday was fun but the Northwest winds made it near impossible to make any decent progress down range. Today turned out much better and several of us bounced down range with 8 of us: Diablo, Ben Haug, Andy Keller, Nathan, Akira, Bob Anderson, Terry Taggart and myself making it through the pass. The further East we progressed the more ENE winds we encountered. The winds forced me to turn around at Santa Paula Peak but Bob Anderson pushed through to Fillmore. There was several times during the flight that I was getting pelted with hail. The hail wasn’t any larger than BB’s so it wasn’t a problem, I was just glad it wasn’t rain. It was very cold at altitude today, my hands and feet felt like Popsicles near the end of the flight. My vario showed 18 degrees at 6k in Ojai. When I finally landed my feet were so cold I had trouble walking to Tom’s truck. I literally couldn’t feel them. Cold or not, it was a great day to fly.

Congrats go out to Ben and Nathan for having personal best flights today.
