Four days left before the Breitling Cusco Open begins down here in Peru. The town is at 10,900 feet, and launch is just under 12,000. We got to 17,500 on our first day of flying. We didn’t do any big distance. We flew around and got to know the valley. We didn’t fly yesterday as it was blowing down all day. Today looks promising. I’ll keep you posted. Here are a few Pictures. http://www.eagleparagliding.com/peru.html

Launch at 12k and cloudbase at 17.5k? Are you guys using oxygen? Do they have an 18k legal ceiling like we do?

Looks like an awesome place to fly!

We have had weather the last three days. Hopefully it will turn for the comp which starts Thursday. I do have oxygen, although I didn’t have it our first day of flying. Magic Mike got a little hypoxic. They don’t have the 18K rule here so we can go as high as we like. However there is no winds aloft data to be found. The Amazon is 40 Kilometers beyond the peak you see in the flying photo. Hopefully the weather turns for us. I’ll take some photos when the sun comes back out and post. Hope you guys get some good days on the South Coast.

Two crummy days of weather here for the start of the Cusco Open. I’m glad I arrived early to get a taste. Here are some more pictures taken two days before the comp. We only have two days left…pray for sun in Peru. http://www.eagleparagliding.com/peru2.html

Yeah Bo, it has been a fun place to fly. I'm glad we got here before to the comp to enjoy some really tasty flying condtions. We finally got a flyable day the 4th and final day of the competition. It was a 44 Kilometer task. The conditions were very unstable. It had rained on an off the past three days. The task was a good call, but the wind came up so if you weren’t racing it was hard to get to the upwind turn point quick enough. They haven’t posted results on the web site form what I can see. Two Brazilians took first and second. Frank Brown was second. He ended up landing 150 meters from the shoreline in the lake on the way to goal, but was able to get a track log out of his wet gps. A nice Austrian guy took third, a Colombian took 4th, and Nick Greece took 5th. I ended up 8th. I did pretty well keeping up with those comp wings on my DHV 2 UP Summit 3. They are talking about putting on another comp down here in May when the weather is more consistent. Here is the final link to a new set of pictures. http://www.eagleparagliding.com/peru3.html
