Theory question...

Postby gracecab » Mon Jul 06, 2015 12:04 pm

Since the discussion topic included THEORY, I'm asking:

If you had to give 1 piece of advice towards thermal mastery (assuming someone caught the thermal and has a general idea of it's direction/wind) what would you say?

If you lose a thermal always search upwind first. Because of our sink rate a thermal will always climb faster. Because of that we tend to sink out the back end of them if we don't make adjustments while circling.

I would say that's the person you want to follow.

Been reading "Thermal Flying" by B.Maarten and it's been super helpful.

Also invested in a much more accurate Vario (2001 Brauniger Competino) and it is profoundly more helpful in sensing vertical movement in flight for thermal mapping.
