Rumor travels fast!
It was an enthusiastic crew that ambled up to EJ. Willy was off first and showed us it was working followed by Chris G, and a few others on fast wings. Those boys (Brian, Cade, Chris) headed for Ojai pretty quick, getting stuck around the power lines in some headwind action. I launched with Carmen after picking a not so hot cycle and resetting for the 2nd try that worked much better. We made a few circles with Marge in front of EJ and got up and over, and chose to go right to La Cumbre to chase someone on a Blue Niviuk. We got high there and waited for others to launch. We just kept on circling in lift, upwind of those still taking off and by the time they were on there way we topped out at 6600 and cruised to the R and R, then Therm Factory, Montecito Pk, Romero, but got no love there, backtracked to west Romero and made a play for the beach along with someone in a pod on a green Ozone and my pal John W, from AZ. Ended up at the polo fields and was kindly greeted by Teo, the greenskeeper. John landed at the golf course and was eventually ferried to the 101 by none other than Andy D! Meanwhile the boys from the pass turned around and headed back for the Padaro Grill and enjoyed some grub and suds while the FAA van, Steve's Sprinter Van and my Truck were delivered 'tut suite' thanks to Steve F. and Patti, and another Steve that dropped my car off to me at the Padaro onramp before heading to Padaro for the rest. Thanks guys. I was able to pick up John, but I never heard how the green Ozone pilot got back (who John and I both watched landing near the 101 safely).
Rumor had it that it got windy on top, and I saw a glider get stuck in some bushes, so not sure whose, but thanks just the same to Marge for driving up in the Eagle Van and for coordinating such a fantastic retrieve. Thanks also to LeAnn (Sp?) for offering to drive the Van down! It would have been nice to make Padaro, but John and I had no complaints and thoroughly enjoyed real thermals, real XC and it was REAL FUN.
