Sundowner, BobA and I met w/ El Diablo at the Ash St lot and were on launch by 10:30. Sundowner went a few miles further along an entirely different route. BoA got unlucky at Quail Lake. No time to write.

Pine was pretty fun. Nice climbs, light winds. Not too cold, not too hot. Great to spend XC time with Diablo, Sundowner, and Johnathan. Many thanks to Diablo for driving!

the red line is the straight line for longest distance of track, the blue line is more actual distance - a bit kinked and cuts the corner at the end though...google earth stuff

http://youtube.com/watch?v=i0hioClKjLQ#Quick edit of the flight from the track log and some of the video. The camera froze at Neenach before I got sand blasted by a dust devil in a 7000' climb from 600' AGL.

We ran the truck and a full car up for the evening fun. Still cycling up at 4:30 and Matt H topped at around 12.5k in buttery smooth air. Most of the others followed and I think we had 6 make the glide to Ojai including a bunch of first timers, Stan, Magic, Robin, Matt. Randall landed at Rose Valley, Joel at CalTrans, and Marty B at the Sand Pile. Sadly a few of us got skunked by the North wind that eventually spilled over. For these Pine glass-offs it's important to launch when it's good and have your stuff ready to go when you step into the launch window. I'm encouraging people to line check and clip in up on the road. We're going again at the next available opportunity!

Congratulations to the pilots who made their first flight from Pine to Ojai on Saturday the 14th. I recognize some of the pilot names that have been around for awhile, and there are some new ones as well.
Seems common place now a days, but I vaguely recollect when Rick Spear made the first connection, I think it was late winter 1984. I remember there was patchy snow at launch. We used fly Pine year round back then. Rick got to 9500 at Rayes and pulled the glide on his new double surface Vision back to Ojai. It was big news.

Thanks for the write-ups Tom! I always enjoy reading your reports.
http://paraglide.net/log/13/13_09-14/1_ ... _93_mi.htmMy tracklog:
http://www.paraglidingforum.com/leonardo/flight/827782For pilots learning the routes, it shows a number of reliable thermal triggers that have worked fairly consistently on past flights including Westbound OTB from Crestline.
One of the best parts of Saturday's flight was being in a vehicle with pilots who were there from the beginning and have been an integral part of the Pine X/C expereince throughout its history. It really doesn't get much better than that. It would have been great to have a documentary filmmaker aboard to capture the oral history and the flying plus chase itself.
I think I hear my rocking chair calling me.
