What I wish was Ord to Frazier Mtn...

Postby NMERider » Tue Apr 30, 2013 4:47 pm

...or at least Ord to Neenach and back but I had no chase driver so, big thanks to El Diablo's long-time X/C buddy, Herb for the ride up to launch and making sure I got back to my car. Here's how Sunday little drama actually played out.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjnzSUl4AfQ

Since Pine is closed until August the next closest spot to get a flight across the Antelope Valley may be Ord Mtn in Apple Valley. The forecasts were showing a good possibility of launching Ord and tagging Frazier (105 miles) and just maybe benching up to 15K and either gliding to East Beach or turning around and running w/ the sea-breeze part-way back. Or more likely racing to Neenach then benching up and just possibly making it back to Ord for a 130-mile OnR. I was hoping I could persuade Wally into taking my car after Herb landed but I was Herb's guest and you will have to watch and see to know how things shook out.

Herb had his new Atos VQ11 which would have been fun to fly with had he launched but the special cable that connects his vario to his headset had an issue and he did not fly.
Enjoy!

Good to see your shoulder is strong enough to get back in the harness after your dislocation at Upper Parma in October.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me out when it was my turn in the proverbial barrel. Great club!
My orthopedic surgeon discharged me on Monday, the day after this short Blackhawk flight.
To this day I am still reeling over bombing out when BobA went 107 miles and I went down: http://www.paraglidingforum.com/leonardo/flight/221605

My ortho was intrigued about how I could use the same sport that resulted in an injury as physical therapy for the same injury. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY3PMnQZ2U0

So Friday looks possibly epic. I think Sylmar to the coast may be possible. I have not decided on a route yet. I've done Sylmar, 56 miles East then 30 miles back, but have never made it West of Oat Mtn, Fillmore. Any thoughts?
