Updated Map For Chismahoo Relaunch

Here are a couple of Google Earth Graphics to help you relaunch when you land on Chismahoo Trail.

It's very natural to try to fly faster through a section that is making you nervous. Not having a trail below you can push your emotions to want to get to the trail ahead. So from the Powerlines to the next real trail - Chismahoo - there are some big crossings and there is nowhere to land. If you decided to travel on past the Powerlines, it was probably because you believed the day was working and you were getting good heights. So try to slow down and work the spines and take your time between the Powerlines and White Ledge. It's a tough lesson to learn and I've had to relaunch a number of times. I've found my favorite relaunch and now you know where it is. Print a copy of these maps and put them in your harness if you are new to flying through the gap. I'm also available for Cross Country and Thermal training.

This season is going to be a good one!

Thanks for contributing to the knowledgebase Bo. I concur that the middle (2nd) bump is preferable to the first. The glide from the first bump looks intimidating so I’ve always hiked further to the 2nd or 3rd bump. The 3rd bump is a little lower but may be a better option if the wind is from the WNW late in the day. I think the 2nd bump is typically the best choice.

One minor comment regarding nomenclature. My information indicates that Chismahoo is the mountain (or large foothill) in front of East Divide Spine. Several pilots have attempted to re-launch from Chismahoo, but I don’t recall anyone being successful. The ridge described in the graphics you produced is listed as Superior Fuelbreak on the USGS Maps. To avoid confusion, I renamed your files White Ledge Re-Launch and posted them with our other resources at:
http://scpa.info/sites > Front Range > Casitas Pass >
as with the weather page, the list is collapsible with IE, but not with Firefox or Chrome

If you flush from Noon or West Divide Spine, the firebreak running up the back side of the hill behind Gobernador can be used to land and hike up to the top for a re-launch.
