Unexpected Wed

We saw an epic lapse rate and relatively light winds aloft on the forecast so opted for the early run at Alternator with some Fly Above All students eager for high flights. I knew something was amiss when I hit 101 in Ventura and saw trees bent over, and that trend continued all the way to The T. It was blowing down, hard, in the LZ but rapidly switched to SSW and considerably stronger than it should have been. Clearly it wasn't going to be a good day in the mountains but More Mesa was close, and had potential. It was flyable when we arrived and stayed so until 3:30! Nearly 5 hours of great air with several visiting and new pilots getting awesome flights! It did try to block at several points and there were flush cycles but it'd be back on again minutes later. I think we all ended up quitting because we were tired of flying. How often does THAT happen?? Spectacular day at the coast!
