I looked up and just went, "Wow"! It looked really awesome. High cloud base, cloud street to Santa Ynez peak. Was it any good yesterday? I didn't see any stories.
oh jeezuuss!! lift and gliders EVERYWHERE!!! cloudbase was pretty much 3200 and lower to the east. launched eliminator and bobbed around thermal factory and then down to westbowl with andy and ty along the front. There was a beautiful huge arching black bottomed cloud street bending from westbowl, out towards town and bending back all the way to santa ynez peak. couldnt tell if it was from the north wind pushing the clouds through the pass or possibly a convergence as there was a strong south wind component yesterday. ty was on top of westbowl and chased the cloud street out in front, he wasnt able to connect and said it was turby so he turned tail and landed at the t. i was low and in the lee at westbowl and getting ragdolled so i turned tail back to cathedral and got back up. cruised down to parkers area and hung out above the tea bowls for a long time never getting more then 2500, took it once to the east but the clouds out front were gone by then, so i wussed out and turned tail. hammer came ripping over my head out of the clouds at that point as he was lapping it up, that bastard! got back up at parkers and cruised back to parma where my baby and baby momma were hanging out.. super fun day!! people that launched later looked like they were getting way higher as cloudbase lifted..there were more pg's and hg's out then i have seen all season, so lets here some chatter!!
really fun and picturesque cloudbasing practically anywhere out front of roundhouse ridge/monestary~ .my max alt was 46+ @ windward cathedral. alt to take it places out front for lots of pgs! sheriff plane flew under, over and between pilots between parma and holy hills~ not really close but noteworthy. i love how many different "tastes" of sb flying we can try every season. to boat around under the dark tops and stay high out over the sunny town was classic.
Santa Barbara residents yesterday reported numerous sightings of the rare Cormacsouras, a giant prehistoric bird. Thought to extinct, the orange and white bird's strange mating call was heard throughout much of the city, "Waa hoo hoo hooo"! It was last seen heading for the beach.
The forecast looked so good in the morning that I had to make the trip. Bo and I launched around 12:30 ish, and by the time I got in the air most everyone else (PG's) had already landed, which really surprised me. Where did everyone go, and why weren't they taking full advantage of the stellar conditions that SB rarely dishes out. There were only a few bags left in the air, along with several hangs, in the best part of the day.
BO and I bounced up and down the range, lift was everywhere, cloudbase was ranging between 4700-5200', and it was the most stress free flight I've had in a long time - damn that was fun! Topped it off with a landing at East Beach and lunch at Rose's Cafe - now that's my kind of heaven. Here's a few pics that Bo and I took:
