Hey all,
Just got back from my first flight in Iquique! This place is sweet. If you haven't been here before, the geography is similar to that of the SB. You've got beach and mountains. However, there is also a large sand dune in the middle of the all this between the mountains and the city. I launched today at about 1,500 ft. It cost me about 1.50 to get to the launch in public transit. I launched first and quickly followed some birds into a thermal that took me to 2,000. I continued down range for a few miles where most the pilots cross the city and land at the beach. When I got up to about 2,500 I opted to return to the launch and fly in the opposite direction toward the Flight Park and my wife and baby. I landed directly behind the Flight Park hotel in the dunes and was folding my glider away 5 minutes later from the comfort of the flight park itself.
This place is pretty sweet. On a typical day a couple buses leave from here in the morning and everybody gets about 2 flights. Then in the afternoon they head out to Palabuque. If your thinking about going on a flying vacation. This gets 2 thumbs up in my book.
