I'm trying to get some flight time in to test some new camera equipment... Anyone going to be flying this week? Maybe some post frontal air time?

Has the Wilcox turned on in the last few days? It is supposed to get a bit windy on Wednesday.... Give me a call if anyone wants to go fly. I'm a bit out of the loop up here in Lompoc, so some SB reports would be great. Maybe Plowshare Thursday with the expected warming trend? James 451-5697

Plowshare is not open until June 1st...
I'm sure they be some ridge soaring the next few days, maybe even a mtn flight or two...

Bob, I spoke with Kathleen Phelps out of the Santa Maria office who is in charge of Plowshare last week. I've been bugging her for months trying to get special access but to no avail. The current date set for opening Sierra Madre Rd is July 1st. That may change, it's dependent on the crews finishing the work before then. John

Well... I can be up and ready to go within 15 minutes. Have an hour drive to SB though. Bummer about Plowshare. July 1 is a long way off. They just had a fire up there too....
Has anyone flown the Wilcox in the last couple of days or has the wind been offshore?

Kev is up there and says it's coming on at Wilcox.
I'm heading up there now. Tried calling you, but I must have your home number.

Zac, Cayucos was classic yesterday-1700+ in the back bowl and the easiest flight to the Rock ever. Should be the same today and tomorrow, just a couple mph stronger. Come on up!

I'm good for that too Zac. Call me if you want to go! If not, I'm heading down to SB to see if the Wilcox hits...

Cool vid John. I've always wanted to make it down to the Rock... Still on my bucket list. Would love to hit it again sometime this spring. Any damage from the Falcon?

Couldn't find any falcon-inflicted damage. I've had them hit the trailing edge in the past, but this one must have grabbed the leading edge out by the tip, as the glider yawed as it would if you hit a small bush coming in on final! The next 3 days look like they should be similar to the last 3, all with potential to make it to the rock. Come on up.

Great to see some video footage of the Rock, Charburger always told us about soaring the Rock after the flight down from Cayucas, but we've never seen what it looked like until now, thanks !

Wow John, your flight, the video and the Falcon strike were amazing. I had what I thought was a bird strike myself once. I saw something small and super fast diving at me smack my leading edge and yaw me around. What I saw was Gary Begley in a speedglider tumbling off my leading edge. Not to worry though...he cut away, free-fell, pulled his chute, glided down until he hit this big rock, rappeled down the face, landed on a mountain bike and rode away. No damage to either of us.
