Wed 4/7, Nuthouse to Montecito

Wed Morning Update about 7 AM. Expect to be at the trailhead about 9:30ish. The Santa Anna is a little slow to crank up this morning due to a slight ground level inversion? Blowing down river at Piru, but not reaching the coast yet. A little more flow from the east in the Winds Aloft Forecast, so it should be a tailwind back to SB.

Tuesday Night Perspective: Planning to depart Carpinteria about 8:30ish AM. Earlier Forecast appears on track. Susan on board to crew.

Tuesday Afternoon perspective. Looking to hike up to the Nuthouse Wednesday morning. Likely early to avoid the heat, plus I'll need to go slow due to my unstable ankle and generally subpar physical condition. The forest service says the road may be open near the end of this month. Will check the weather tonight and early am then post an update. The good lapse rate and light winds in Ojai look favorable for flying back to Santa Barbara. Should also work in SB, but you likely won't be able to get past Ojai due to catabatic Santa Anna drainage flow down the Santa Clara River. Thursday may be doable eastbound with a little luck in the timing. The on-shore flow is forecast to come in, so there may be an afternoon sea breeze front moving up the Santa Clara River plowing under and lifting the offshore flow above a convergence that moves upriver.

Tom,

By chance, do you use Twitter? I am only able to go online in the mornings on weekdays and rely primarily on pilots sending me text messages (through Twitter, since Zippy Zac offered that nugget of advice) when conditions are good somewhere. Personally I fly with Nitrous as often as I can and am now using my Twitter account to post whenever I might be committing aviation. My username is KingSimonP, but my account is private because my wife and I only like flying with pilots who do not drink, curse, or smoke (for you I will make an exception, plus I have a really bad hangover right now and just finished smoking my last pack of cigarettes I had on hand).

Thank you for rejoining the community.

So when you called Montecito did the dispatch come back, "Tom...is that you?" "Welcome back!"

Glad you came out of it in one piece.

Only Tom could be so calm in situations like that, amazing. Glad you are ok, looking forward to more great flying stories as only Tom can tell them! Make sure they are flying stories and not crashing stories.
