Since it doesn't look like it will block in the mountains today...

Is this the kind of pattern that could work for Bates later on?

still trying to figure this place out,
Zippy

Zippy, I was also thinking about Bates but there was too much north in the wind. Usually, it is after a good rain and cold weather that Bates comes on strong enough to make the jump and fly to Ventura. Usually pilots are waiting at Parma with a good lapse rate then the wind is too strong and people drive over to Bates as a last resort and if they are lucky it's coming in nice. Warm weather usually has too much of an offshore component to it and a poor lapse rate. Bates is hard to call. Usually, it takes a drive down there or call someone who's already there and it's good to be there fairly early, 10 ish is my guess, as set up is easier before the wind picks up. When this wind dies down it could be nice at Eliminator/Skyport. That could possibly be Sunday. My mom saw someone flying in the mountains today. Was that you?

Thanks Tony. No, I didn't fly. I drove out to Bates, and it seeme close to being soarable, but the wind was too SE.

The wind backed down and started to Eddy back into the coast yesterday - turning East at the Mesa:

I watch the East Channel Bouy Wind, it tells the story of yesterday's wind nicely:
