First HG Lesson!

Postby Chris G » Wed Jun 21, 2006 4:31 pm

Just got my first HG lesson from Kevin Coltrane (who happened to teach for Greblo and Andy Beem a while back)! Kinda strange being a student again and feeling like a complete neophyte but by the end of a half day I can launch and land with all the grace of a drunken albatross. Definitely weird having all that metal swinging around over your head but once you're in the air it's pretty smooth. The PG experience helps except for balancing the glider on the ground. The whole "move under the low side" thing doesn't work at all.

When flying hanggliders think of turning much like you would seat steering, instead of leaning into the direction of the turn like in paragliding you simply move your weight towards the direction in which you want to turn. Really pretty simple!
