Flying with Condors

Postby pengoquin » Sun Jun 11, 2006 12:14 am

Rob M, Mark P and I had the pleasure of being joined by several Condors today while soaring at Mark's mountain in Fillmore. They weren't shy and hung out with us for a fair length time (we probably looked any easy meal). Great way to spend the afternoon.

Went to Ronnie's Roost with Robb on Sunday and flew for about an hour. The lift was pretty much everywhere and found it easy to boat around at 1000-1200 over. There was more to be had but cloudbase was at 4000 and we had to keep visual on the aircraft going into SP airport. The condors were there again, Robb said they get fed a couple times a week by the conservation people out there, but the one we saw on the road seemed to be doing fine on his own, scarfing down a huge gopher snake that had been run over. Thanks for letting us come out today Mark.

Vario log: 760 fpm up, 640 dn, max alt. 1415 over launch, 57 minutes.
