Visiting HG pilot hoping to fly Santa Barbara

Postby MarkC » Mon Apr 13, 2009 7:25 pm

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums, and I've registered because I'll be passing
through SB on my way to San Diego, next week sometime. It would be great if I
could get to fly one of your area sites : I've flown Horse and Laguna, and
Elsinore/Marshall/Crestline over the years, but never anywhere further north.
I did visit Santa Barbara once, and went for a drive along Camino Cielo... And
all I could think of was how cool it would be to fly those mountains! :D

Unfortunately, I won't be able to have any gear with me this trip, so I'm looking
to beg/borrow/rent gear from pilots or instructors/schools, if conditions allow
for a flight while I'm there. Even a sledder would be fun.

A bit about me: I'm a Hang-3, been flying actively for 13 years, at
slot/ramp/cliff/aerotow sites in the MD, PA, VA area. I fly a WIlls Wing U2.

Any advice for how I might be able to finagle a wing would be most appreciated!

Cheers,

MarkC

PS: And happy to return the favor for anyone visiting the Wash DC area!

What are your dates? I'm here through next weekend, but then I'm off to Florida for the start of the comp season. I can likely go fly with you, and give a site intro. I have an extra harness, but the only gliders I have available right now are SS, an old F195 or Dream 220. Maybe someone else has a glider you can fly. You may be able to rent through Tammy at www.flyaway.com

Hey Zac,

I'm likely to be in SB on either Tuesday Apr 21 or Wednesday Apr 22.
The Falcon 195 might be a good fall-back option (I'm 6', 155lbs), very
kind of you to offer a wing and glider! And I think I'll take your advice
and give Tammy a call tomorrow.

Any early guesses on the weather for early/mid next week? (I know,
I know, but ya can't blame a guy for askin' :)

Pretty exciting to think of flying out there, that would be way cool!

Cheers,

Mark, I'll be up in Tahoe and on my way to Florida. Tammy's web address is http://www.flyaboveall.com/flyaway

Anybody else up for helping Mark out with a site intro?

Hope you get in some good flying,
Zippy

Sorry that I'll miss you Zac, but good luck in FL !

I've gotten in touch with Tammy, and it looks like we might be able
to work something out. Perhaps without the obligatory training-hill
trip (though I can certainly see the importance of it, given site
sensitivity in CA). Makes the land-owner issues in my area pale in
comparison...

Cheers,

MarkC

Zippy,

Maybe you should stick around a day in order to defend your Marshall/Crestline FW record.

I'm rooting for you to bust it big time!
