Sunday, heading up to alternator, 10am at the "T"

Postby Doug G » Sun Aug 17, 2008 7:43 am

Hey All,

Yesterday was actually a pretty fun day off alternator. The slide was working well, as was the front of west bowl. Easy to maintain, with some slow climbs to above the peak of west bowl. Not epic, but a fun mellow day nonetheless.

We have a van going up again today, possibly with a driver. Meet time is 10am at the T.

Another good day at the alternator, actually even better than yesterday.

We knew it was a good day when Tom was first off and showed us a sweet glide out to connect with the slide thermal and worked it up above west bowl. Ah, yeah....it's on...Justin was off next for his first high flight, and got one of the best first mountain flights I've seen, nearly flying over the top of west bowl, and working easy lift out to the LZ where he had plenty of altitude to burn with a tour of the area. The rest of us, Rich, myself, and pokey who showed up later (of course), all had good flights with great thermaling both behind and in front of west bowl. So cool to have mid-summer days where we can thermal wingtip-to-wingtip, with easy consistent climbs.

Seems like we weren't the only ones getting some good soaring today. From the LZ it looked like the hill was working, as we could see someone skied out! Let's hope for same thing next weekend, when we'll be having our Training Hill Soaring clinic. We still have a few spots left, so if anybody's interested, give me a call or email. More info here:

After flying the ridges for the last few weeks, It was really nice to turn in some thermals and have some terrain clearance! Hopefully there will be more days like that in the coming weeks. Many thanks to Doug, David, Lee Ann, and Chad for rallying the troops for some local mtn flying!!!
