A few of us are planning to head to Lone Pine this weekend...The forecast is looking very good out in the Owens Valley with light winds aloft...Bishop forecast winds is less than 5 mph to 18000' thru Sunday...sailplanes were getting to 18k yesterday...17,999' looks likely for us for the next few days...

If anyone is interested, give Hammer, myself, John Lyon, Ninja, Pokey, or Marge a shout...

From Minden Soaring today:

Outlook...ridge across Great Basin toward SW Canada...GREAT thermals with moisture creep from the S and weak impulses off CA coast brushing Sierra-soaring area...afternoon Cu/Tcu cloudstreets along Sierra-hwy 395 corridor including Whites-Inyos...plus could develop Cb/tstms in favored area S of Markleeville first then expanding toward Mt Grant...models project Saturday as better soaring than Sunday with incresing OD potential...ENJOY...!! :)

We scored one good day at Walt's Point a week ago Saturday. Rock and roll for the first few climbs, then it got better. 16k at Winoga, dolphined to the base of Onion Valley, found big lift to 13k while crossing in front of Onion Valley...flew on to Lookout and got rocked at 10k. Went around the corner low and scratched around until in front of Split Mtn, then climbed nicely to 16k, while Little John went to 17999' under a convergence cloud SW of the Big Cinder Cone, S of Big Pine. I then dolphined to below Coyote Flats, before Kehoe Hot Springs. Milked the foothills til 13k, flew off the end of the Flats toward Round Valley, landing in the last green field before Paradise. ~85 miles, 3hr 40 min flight. Everyone else landed in Bishop after tagging Chalfont or cruising the flats. Noteably, Jah tagged the 80 mile mark, then turned back to Bishop. We hiked the next day under strong SW conditions. 8)
