Pine Mountain Glass-Off Fun! (video)

Best viewed in full 1080p w/ stereo. Chris mentioned this was probably the biggest turnout of gliders at Pine in eight years and everyone had nice landings or very minor brushes. The turnout certainly exceeded anything I've seen in the 5 years of my recent flying. Even though there was a pretty dense mid-level cloud layer many pilots were getting 800' over and the air was smooth. Things began to shut down a bit early and the wings began to cascade down onto the sand pile-up.

I was the token hang glider under the Equal Enjoyment Opportunity regulations and this was my first time launching Pine and not planning on going OTB and long. I hoped to land by the HS but was flying a Sport 2 (11:1) which didn't have the glide under the conditions. I had been scoping out that little roadside field kitty-corner to the North of the granulated silica mound and when combined with a drag chute it makes for a convenient bail-out for us mixed-wing couples. Unless it's blowing much harder than it was, I would suggest HGs stick to the old ramp and avoid the spot I hucked off.

I'm looking forward to Marty's still shots and even more so to actually going OTB.

Cheers, JD

Wow, you don't waste a minute to bust out a sweet video!

I was stoked to get to fly with everyone, and though it was light, it was certainly fun. I can't say if or when my footage will be uploaded, but there were some nice clips that I will endeavor to put together some way or other if possible.

should be good (great?) tonight so I am hoping for more reviews and to hear all about it.

Cheers,

Marty

Thanks Marty. I wanted to study the launch and the landing and also to see how shooting in 48fps worked out rendered at 24fps. I don't know about you but I like it and it does seem more like film and less like video.

Let's keep and eye on Tavis (live): http://share.findmespot.com/shared/face ... FVCqZ8kHs1

Edit: Must have been good. Tavis landed at the HS.

Niiiiiice! Yes, the video is sweet. I like the multiple angles. MUCH better than single POV.

Wish we coulda done a twofer and got some of that fun! Nice Tavis. Anybody else go big?

I still want to hear all about it. Maybe the folks that flew tonight will make it to the SBSA meeting on thursday in SB.??? I am gonna show a few photos and a short video shot by the sole Canadian pilot at the Worlds in Bulgaria (he stayed with us Yanks at our place). Bob Anderson will be showing his AMAZING photos from his flying in Europe this summer too. We love fresh stories from the wild blue yonder!

Might be worth the drive up, the pizza quality and salad bar are a sure thing!

Just saying,

Marty

Thanks! I also like to have multiple cameras on different gliders when I can.

Talked to Tavis. Four pilots may the HS. 10.2K tops. Arrived w/ 1500 AGL. Crossed the ridge opposite Hwy 33 w/ 1K. Stephan <sp?> on his Delta 2 blew past Tavis who was chumming off of Chris G. It pays to pick the right line!

Wish I could make the meeting but it's 125 miles each way. :(
