Chief Tues.

Postby oj » Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:35 pm

Just a quick flight to the high school. Lift was strong, as expected with a 36 degree spread, and drawing hard towards the back ridge. Even though I was still climbing through 6k I went West hoping for something less dynamic towards Nordhoff Ridge. It was strong everywhere. Matt with his tandem passenger appeared to hit 7k over Chief's, and Tavis, our Marshall pilot, got 6900 at Nordhoff. Over the lz with 3200 allowed for some extended sightseeing around the valley.

Vario: 1040 fpm up (Robin reported 1600 up), 720 dn, max alt. 6250, 35 minutes.

sb had pressure at 1015(last weekend hovered at 1018), la cumbre 12 degrees cooler then cito and a few cues high early on, but i think the frickin east wind jumbled it all up again. la cumbre was reporting stiff wind so we jumped ole skypoopy and fell straight downcanyon. i got one at power prayer above st marys and drifted up holy hills to the tit to join howser. he jumped back to RR and kept getting around 4k and rode the back ridge. i took 3600 and downwinded to cathedral, where it was crackin from the lower points. at westbowl i couldnt find anything but 400 down which quickly had me at the T where i landed in WNW wind. hmmm... Howser got pinned at altenator by the se wind and reported low single digit ground speed but no sink gliding out. he rode that seam out to sea but came up short of the training hill. another funky east day. good times!
