fogbase sunday

Postby Aaron » Mon Apr 29, 2013 12:43 pm

jealousy set in with most folks at big sur or oat, so i trumped off to the hill on sunday. wickstrom was already soaring under the fog at 11:30 in light se wind. i bombed a few out and then as the sun started to poke i got up and floated all over the park with Jim. the sun was over the lz so i pushed out front and took a lucky one to fogbase. with light wind i floated over to the cox, coming in a 100 over the trees. soared for 15 minutes or so and put 'er on the beach and walked back to the hill. fun stuff! people were 200 over still when i left. i bet you could have soared the hill for 2 or 3 hours that day.

shoeless friday

on friday i got to the hill late and swallows were constantly all over the place but only getting 50 or so above. i feel like a madman there sometimes as i always aim for 30 flights thinking odds will be on my side and i should soar at least one of them(and its fun exercise). it seems doug and chad can smell it and they always get up their first flight or two. my nose aint that good, so i rely on a double red bull before i get out of the car. after about 10 flights or so, i got blisters from my crappy shoes so i went barefoot for the next 15 or more flights never getting more then the 50ft above like the swallows were getting. about 25 or 30 flights in i went over to the point(again) and all the sudden a gaggle of swallows rocketed up in front of me so i pursued the bubble. got super high before i knew it so put my barefeet on the bar and sunk like a rock to wilcox. came in below the top of the slew(west) side of the cliff, but got around the corner and got up. soared for another 30 minutes or so before landing barefoot on the beach. that was a magical feeling... sometimes getting airborne in bulk pays off. good times at the hill!
