maui burger wednesday

frickin internet weather. i guess it is like a statisticians job of making any set of data fit whatever scenario he is getting paid to prove. i thought it was gonna be flat and others thought it was gonna be great. well, it was somewhere in between with a spicy flavor. 4 niviuks with 4 xalps harnesses(that was a funny sight) all jumped together at ej bowl. we touched 5k at la cumbre and RR. The climbs were often stiff out of the east but the wind was light south. i watched the other 3 'uks scratch the bottom of the thermal factory so i tried hammers backridge route(he usually rides it all the way to romero). interesting on a pg. jumped behind RR to the brotherhood and bumped along east just above and even with camino cielo road. got below camino cielo short of monticito peak so bailed back to the rear of shadow spine for a bump and then off to monicito peak. never got more then 3700 after leaving RR. bailed at castle with howser and and jacksonB for a maui burger at padaro. leeside landed at parma to chase his kitesurfing obligations. tough life ;) fun day! huge thanks to kelly for driving us up and picking our butts up later.

Nice! Glad to hear that some folks are out there gettin' some. Hey, I have a niviuk and a xalps harness, can I come play with your clique too?

Sounds like you have not learned the fine art of checking the weather: The trick is to look until you find something close to what you were hoping for, and then stop looking!. The hard part is disregarding all the other conflicting data when only one source looks marginally good and all the others are pretty much saying stay home. It takes a strength and bravery (read: denial) to go with your gut (biassed, desperate hopes) and let go of conventional wisdom. What makes all these other sources such an expert anyway, unless of course they have a favorable forecast!??

On that note, what say we test this theory in Ojai tomorrow, Saturday the 13th? Any takers? What's a 45 minute hike with your pack when you have an average forecast that MIGHT be really good after all???

just asking?
