I had a nice time at the Dixon Memorial Fly-In (and demo days) last weekend.
The drive was spectacular on the way out with a lot of weather clouds, rain, rainbows and a tailwind! Cccold, when we got there (40 degrees in Flag), and clear the next day, and warmed up nicely by Sunday. Saturday was full of sledders and occasional soaring and allowed for some light thermaling and ridge soaring at times. Had a YUMMY BBQ under the stars that night and remembered my friend and mentor, Dixon.
Day two was a treat. I had a nice XC with Rob, Marite, John Wolfe, Brad Chastain (no dyslexia, that is his name), Niel, BJ Boyle (for the first gaggle), and Dustin, the well known Hang Pilot who flies a wicked looking topless hang glider from Wills Wing. Rob went the farthest of the PGs at almost 16+ miles, then Niel Just past the Junk Yard (11 miles), and Brad, John and I landed at the RC field (8 miles) near Marite. Dustin flew a nice out and return and we got to watch him swoop us at the Sheba LZ after all being retrieved and he came back and landed there too, to join us. Nice! Merriam was the launch at around 7k and we got to almost 9k. Rob must have got a bit higher as he was a Robsicle when we picked him up. Big thanks to John and Jana, Steve Konves and his wife and of course Debra White, for all their help to make this a really nice memorial. Many people helped out, drove, and made this a big success for about 50 or so pilots. Thanks all for being there.
Cheers,
Marty
