Lapse rate looks ho hum and theres a 10mph N flow at 6k but I'm going to roll up the Nuthouse around 10:40 and do a little trail maintenance that it desperately needs. It might be flyable, it might not, but I wouldn't turn down company. Bring pruning clippers and gloves!

Arrived at the trailhead at 10:40 and re-cut the around a brushpile that someone had blocked our trail with. Spent at least an hour on the first 300 feet of trail but could feel heat starting up the hill already. Figured I'd better move a little quicker and after 2:20 on the trail made it to the top. At the 3/4 mark several turkey vultures cored up past me which was a good sign. Off launch just after 1 in strong cycles. There was little doubt I was going to climb out but the N had me worried and the sharp edges weren't helping. Hit 2700 over launch and surfed across a few spines. Made 3200 but it seemed to cap out. The first canyon crossing started off low but bumped into a boomer 1/4 of the way across and got to 37. Easy crossings from there on out, with 4500+ over Nordhoff ridge. It smoothed out considerably above 3200 but there was also some NW wind aloft. Easy glide to the HS where Sparky picked me up and got me back to my car. In hindsight I'd have gotten up much earlier and rounded up a crew but I was behind the curve and didn't expect much from the day anyway. Turned out to be pretty sweet! Never know if you don't show...
